Join Mike's Camera and Colorado Photographic Art Center and Sony for an Exclusive three-part Photography workshop.

An Introduction to Street Photography workshop and Denver walk and celebrate the Month of Photography!

You will get online class instruction the Wednesday before the photo walk, followed by a guided walking tour in the Streets of Denver. This walk will include hands-on photography instruction with the instructor, Brian Rabin, and Sony Technical representative Ashley Ondricek.

Before the walk, Brian and Ashley will review the route, and answer any questions. Ashley will have Sony Camera equipment available for use during the walk that you can borrow (please bring a credit card and driver's license if you will be borrowing any equipment).

On the Wednesday after the walk, you will share the images you captured on the walk with the group during a virtual follow-up image critique.

What You’ll Learn

Your Wednesday evening introduction to Street photography online Webinar will consist of a brief History of street photography focusing on Eugene Atget who took it upon himself to document the changes in Paris during the modernization campaign known as Haussmannization of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Thoughts on Street Photography and the Role of the Street Photographer will be introduced and discussed. Different approaches to Street Photography will be considered and highlighted. These contrasts of approaches and photographers who will be presented include;

  • The Aesthetic Approach
  • Saul Leiter   
  • Ernst Haas 
  • Fan Ho 
  • The Narrative Approach

In addition to the eight photographers listed above, the works of Bernice Abbot, Walker Evan, Lee Friedlander, Bruce Gilden, and Joel Meyerowitz will be discussed. 

By viewing the works of different photographers with different approaches to Street Photography you will gain a perspective that can help shape your approach to Street Photography.

Last, Brian will review the equipment you will need for the street photography walk.

Then on Saturday, you will get a private walking tour in the street of Denver,  

This walk will begin at the base of the 16th Street mall and continue up the mall towards Writers Square. From Writers Square we will continue to Union Station. From Union Station we will complete our walk at the Denver Millennium Bridge. 

In addition to our private guided tour, Ashley Ondricek from Sony will have Sony gear available for you to borrow. Both Ashley and Brian from Mikes Camera will be on hand to answer any technical questions and provide you hands-on assistance and instruction to ensure you tricks to capture sensational images.

The following Tuesday night we will meet online to share our favorite images and give each other feedback. You will also be able to pick up a 12x18 print of your favorite image from your local Mike's Camera!


What to Bring

  • Your camera(s) with extra memory cards and Batteries
  • Water, snacks.
  • Hat to protect from the sun, sunscreen, light raincoat or appropriate clothing for the season
  • Comfortable shoes

Sony Loaner Gear:

Ashley will be in the Denver Location on S. Colorado Blvd on Friday March 17 with a selection of Sony Cameras and Lenses that you can rent for FREE for the walking tour. Gear Must be picked up on Friday between 11am and 4pm and is on a first come first served basis and will be limited to one camera and one Lens. A valid Credit card must be left and a copy of a Valid drivers license in order to test drive the gear. Gear must be returned to the Denver Store on Saturday after the event or Sunday between 11am and 3pm.

Tuition includes evening online webinar, hands-on shooting workshop, free rental of Sony Equipment during the walk, virtual follow-up image critique, plus a 12x18-inchPrint of a favorite image from your day’s shoot.

50% of the proceeds from this workshop will go towards supporting the Colorado Photographic Art Center, the only nonprofit organization in Denver dedicated exclusively to the art of photography. Founded in 1963, they serve as are source center where photographers can learn new skills, pursue their artistic vision, build community, and seek inspiration and creative growth.

Max Class Size:

This Introduction to Street Photography Workshop is limited to 20 photographers. During the photoshoot, we will be split up into small groups of 10. Participation is for those 12 years and older. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult 21 years or older.
