Photo 101 - Online

The Basic Building Blocks of Photography

Designed for users of Interchangeable lens (DSLR and Mirrorless) and premium compact cameras, this essential course sets you up with foundations you’ll need to succeed. You’ll learn the basic skillset that every photographer uses to create amazing images. Techniques like the exposure triangle and white balance are just a few of the subjects covered. You’ll also review numerous photographs and learn to see photographically; all while getting inspired to go out and make your own amazing photos!

We recommend taking this course first as it lays down the foundation that almost all our other educational programs are based upon.

This class is the first of the three, (Photo 101, Photo 201 and Photo 301) classes that builds upon Brian’s “Dashboard” approach to photography. In short, the Dashboard approach is one that allows the student to learn at their own pace.

For each of these classes, Brian (your instructor) will provide the photographic concept as well as a general overview of where to look on their camera to apply the concepts presented. In the end, the photography student, like a good pilot viewing their dashboard, will be able to look at their menu and change the setting to achieve the desired exposures and better pictures.

This class will feature a 2-hour lecture followed by 30 minutes of live Q&A with the instructor.

What You’ll Learn

  • Shutter Speed
  • Aperture
  • ISO Speed
  • White Balance
  • Mode Dial: Differences Between Auto, Program, Priority Modes, and Manual

My father was a professional photographer and all the explaining that I've had over the years, none has made as much sense as what you taught us today. You have a gift for explaining so that we can understand. Thank you."
