NEW – Evening Glowing Wild workshop at the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance. This will be the only chance to participate in this workshop this year.

Overview

Glowing Wild is an immersive lantern experience lighting up the Zoo. This brilliant and enthralling event features unique scenes made up of over 145 lanterns. These beautiful, gleaming displays feature flora and fauna from across the world.

Join Mike's Camera and the Denver Zoo for a photography workshop at Glowing Wild. Wander through vibrant, larger-than-life lantern displays while learning how to photograph these colorful glowing scenes. You’ll get an online class instruction followed by an evening guided walking tour, where you’ll get hands-on photography instruction Then you’ll be able to share the images you captured at the zoo with the group during a virtual follow-up image critique.


During the photoshoot, we will be breaking up into small groups to allow for a more personal guided experience.

What You’ll Learn

Your evening pre-event webinar will consist of tips and tricks for taking photos at night, improving your composition, instruction on exposure, and controlling depth of field for achieving stunning images.

Then on Sunday, you’ll get the opportunity to put into practice what you learned at the online event.

In addition, your instructors from Mikes Camera will be on hand to answer any technical questions and provide assistance and instruction to ensure you capture great images of these glowing displays.

The following week we will meet online to share our favorite images and give each other feedback. You will also be able to pick up a 12x18 print of your favorite image from your local Mike's Camera!

What to Bring
  • Your camera with extra Memory Cards and Batteries
  • Tripod – We are taking photos at night. This is an important piece to your success
  • The correct lens – 16-35mm, 24-70mm 24mm prime. This will be discussed in detail during the webinar.
  • Comfortable shoes

Tuition includes evening webinar, hands-on shooting workshop, a great variety of photographic opportunities, plus a 12x18-inch Print of a favorite image from the shoot.

Max Class Size

This workshop is limited to 30 photographers. During the photoshoot you will be split up into small groups of 10 or fewer. Participation is for those 12 years and older. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult 21 years or older.

Snow or Cold, Rain or Shine!

Please keep an eye on the forecast and come prepared for the cold!  There is always a possibility of snow this time of year, which makes for even more spectacular photos! This workshop will not be cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather.

Shooting Workshop: Sunday April 19, 2026 from 6:30PM - 9:30 PM at Denver Zoo (the group will meet at the main entrance)

Critique: Tuesday April 21, 2026 from 6:30PM - 8:30 PM - (Live Online Event - Recorded for attendee review)
