An Introduction to Street Photography 3 -Part workshop.
Overview
Join Mike's Camera and Instructor Leah Frink for a Street photography workshop! You’ll get online class instruction followed by an early morning private, guided walking tour in Berkeley telegraph Area. where you’ll get hands-on photography instruction. Then you’ll be able to share the images you captured on the photo Street Walk with the group during a virtual follow-up image critique.
What You’ll Learn
Your evening introduction to Street Photography webinar will consist of History of street photography focusing on Eugene Atget who took it upon himself to document the changes in Paris during the modernization campaign known as Humanization of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Thoughts on Street Photography and the Role of the Street Photographer will be introduced and discussed. Different approaches to Street Photography will be considered and highlighted. These contrasting approaches and photographers who will be presented include:
- The Moment Approach
- Henri Cartier-Bresson
- Garry Winogrand
- Elliott Erwitt
- The Aesthetic Approach
- Saul Leiter
- Ernst Haas
- Fan Ho
- The Narrative Approach
- Robert Frank
- Martin Parr
In addition to the eight photographers listed above, the works of Berenice Abbott, Walker Evans, Lee Friedlander, Bruce Gilden, and Joel Meyerowitz will be discussed.
By viewing the works of different photographers with different approaches to Street Photography you will gain a perspective that can help shape your approach to Street Photography.
Last, Leah will review the equipment you will need for the street photography walk.
Then on Saturday, you will get a private walking tour in the Berkeley telegraph Area.
Start Location will be finalized for the part 1 Online Lecture.
The following week we will meet online to share our favorite images and give each other feedback. You will also be able to pick up a 12x18 print of your favorite image from your local Mike's Camera!
What to Bring
- Your camera(s) with extra memory cards and Batteries
- Water, snacks.
- Hat to protect from the sun, sunscreen, light raincoat or appropriate clothing for the season
- Comfortable shoes

Tuition includes evening online webinar, hands-on shooting workshop, a 12x18-inch Print of a favorite image from your day’s shoot.
Max Class Size:
This Introduction to Street Photography Workshop is limited to 20 photographers. During the photoshoot, we will be split up into small groups of 10. Participation is for those 12 years and older. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult 21 years or older.
About Your Instructor: Leah Frink
Leah Frink has worked in the photographic industry as a photographer, salesman, and instructor since 2001. She has published a few books on various topics, including a documentary book on the Rockabilly scene called Revisited, one on her band photography, and one on her black-and-white portrait series called AW. She loves sharing her knowledge and passion for photography with others. She lives in Alameda and enjoys spending extra time with her godchildren, documenting their milestones.
