Overview
Join us for an immersive Hands-on Light Painting Photography Course brought to you by Mike’s Camera and Jamie Rogers of Captain Colorado Photography! This 3-part hands-on workshop is perfect for photographers of all skill levels looking to explore the magic of long exposure photography and creative light techniques.
What You’ll Learn
- The fundamentals of light painting, including gear, settings, and techniques
- How to use various light sources (flashlights, LED wands, and more) to create stunning effects
- Camera settings for long exposure shots to capture vibrant, dynamic images
- Composition tips to enhance your light-painted masterpieces
- Hands-on practice with guided instruction in a controlled environment
What to Bring:
- A DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual mode capability
- A sturdy tripod
- A remote shutter release (optional but recommended)
- A sense of creativity and excitement!
The first part will be a welcome seminar on Friday May 16th at 6:30pm MST. Here, your instructor will go into depth about how to paint with light and what he uses in the field. He will also explain what to bring on the workshop, different lighting techniques that you will be able to create and answer any questions you may have.
The second part will be the workshop at Commons Park/Riverfront Park on Sunday May 18th from 6:00pm-9:00pm. We are photographing in the dark! Please allow time for parking so you do not miss this incredible event and the instructions presented.
The third part will be a closing session that we call the Critique. This will be on Monday May 26th at 6:30pm MST. This is when you pick 1 of your favorite images to show to the class. Your instructor will give you a critique of your image and tips on how you can move forward with future light painting adventures!

About Your Instructor: Jamie Rogers

Jamie Rogers, known professionally as Captain Colorado Photography, is a Denver-based photographer and content creator specializing in commercial photography in the architectural and hospitality sectors. His portfolio consists of striking images of downtown Denver and the mountain scenes of Colorado, including dramatic and serene sunrise and sunset scenes. Jamie maintains an active presence on Instagram under the handle @captaincoloradophotography.
In addition to traditional photography, Jamie found a passion for night photography, and more specifically, "light painting." After many years of practice, Jamie wants to share his techniques with you so that you may fall in love with it too!
