Join us for another immersive Hands-on Light Painting Photography Course brought to you by Mike’s Camera and Jamie Rogers of Captain Colorado Photography! This 3-part hands-on workshop is perfect for photographers looking to expand their light-painting skills with more robust images and advanced editing techniques.
What You’ll Learn
- Review the fundamentals of light painting, including gear, settings, and techniques
- How to use various light sources (flashlights, LED wands, and more) to create more complex & advanced compositions
- A step-by-step process guiding you through the set up and advanced techniques of capturing, so that you can replicate it on your own time and time again
- Advanced editing techniques like using layer masks in Photoshop to create more dynamic light-painted masterpieces
- Hands-on guidance in a controlled environment to practice the techniques yourself
What to Bring:
- A DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual mode capability
- A sturdy tripod
- A remote shutter release (optional but recommended)
- A sense of creativity and excitement!
Part 1: Tuesday September 16th, 2025 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm MST Online
The first part will be a welcome seminar. Here, your instructor will go into depth about how to paint with light and what he uses in the field. He will also explain what to bring on the workshop, different lighting techniques that you will be able to create and answer any questions you may have.
Part 2: Sunday September 21st, 2025 - 7:30pm-10:30pm
The second part will be the workshop at Commons Park/Riverfront Park. We are photographing in the dark! Please allow time for parking so you do not miss this incredible event and the instructions presented.
Part 3: Friday September 26th, 2025 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm MST Online
🎨 Join Jamie for an insider look at how he edits his stunning light painting and steel wool photography shots! In this interactive session, Jamie will walk you through his creative process and provide hands-on guidance through more advanced editing techniques in Photoshop that you can immediately incorporate into your own post-processing workflow.
💻 Bonus: Attendees can submit two RAW images from the onsite workshop for Jamie to review. He’ll do a first-round edit and then walk through the adjustments live on the call—so you can see how small changes make a big impact!

About Your Instructor: Jamie Rogers

Jamie Rogers, known professionally as Captain Colorado Photography, is a Denver-based photographer and content creator specializing in commercial photography in the architectural and hospitality sectors. His portfolio consists of striking images of downtown Denver and the mountain scenes of Colorado, including dramatic and serene sunrise and sunset scenes. Jamie maintains an active presence on Instagram under the handle @captaincoloradophotography.
In addition to traditional photography, Jamie found a passion for night photography, and more specifically, "light painting." After many years of practice, Jamie wants to share his techniques with you so that you may fall in love with it too!
