2 Part Studio Lighting Master Class with Hands-On Workshop

Course Overview:

Take your photography to the next level by mastering studio lighting in this immersive, two-part in-person workshop. Over two sessions, you’ll gain hands-on experience with professional lighting equipment, learn to shape light with modifiers, and understand how to create mood, depth, and dimension in your images.

This class is designed for photographers who want to move beyond basic lighting setups and explore creative control. You’ll work directly with models and still-life subjects, experimenting with key light, fill light, rim light, and more. Our instructors will guide you step-by-step, helping you refine your technique and achieve consistent, professional-quality results.

The workshop includes an evening lecture to outline lighting in a studio setting and four and a half hours inside a full scale studio space in Denver, Colorado. Here we will work with studio gear and a live model to create imagery using between one and five strobes.

What you will Learn:

  • The five characteristics of light and how to manipulate them.
  • One light portraits.
  • Using fill lights and reflectors.
  • Hair lights, rim lights, and background lights.
  • Clamshell, high key, and low key set ups.

Perfect for: Intermediate to advanced photographers ready to confidently control light in the studio and elevate their creative vision.

Join us in person for this two-part master class and transform the way you see and shape light in your photography.

Online Lecture

The space with the greatest creative space available for a photography is the studio, a place where you control all the light that appears in your image. But when we finally step into the studio we don’t have any firm direction of exactly how to proceed. The Studio Masterclass aims to solve this problem. We will teach the essential lighting positions from single light, to fill, to high key, to lowkey, to clamshell. These will be your starting positions anytime you step into the studio.

Hands-on Studio Shoot

Using the techniques we learned in class, we will shoot using a full studio space and a live model. We will start with single light set ups and gradually add lights to the mix, building a variety of effects along the way. By the end you will be comfortable with studio lighting and positioning lights to create exactly the effect you want.
