Photograph a wide range of gardens and collections across 24 acres with an ever-widening diversity of plants from all corners of the world. These distinctive gardens define and celebrate a Western identity, and a unique high altitude climate and geography.

Whether you’re thinking of changing your camera or have your eye on a lens you’ve been hoping to try out, Demo Days provide a unique opportunity to try out all sorts of gear and capture some spectacular photographs. 

Best of all, all demo loaner gear for the test drive is FREE! Our Demo Days are fun for kids and grown-ups alike

Picture Points

As you wander the grounds be sure to look for our roving Picture Points, where the crew from Mike’s Camera will have macro shots setup with reflectors and LED lighting. Our crew will be there to assist you with your photography questions and provide tips for capturing the best shots during your visit.

The Fine Print

A valid Credit Card & Driver’s License is required to checkout gear and will be kept on file until return of equipment. Test Drive Loaner gear is FREE. Restrictions apply. Look for the Mike's Camera Tents at Denver Botanic Gardens the day of the event or stop by any of our Colorado stores for more details.

The photos you take with the loaned equipment are yours to keep! Bring your own SD card (CF for some flagship Canon & Nikon models) to use in the cameras to store your files. If you forget to bring a memory card, you can borrow one, and a CD containing your photos will be burned for you before you leave.


Although registration is not necessary, standard Denver Botanic Gardens admission fees apply. All gear is provided on a first come, first served basis, so get there early for best selection. All gear must be returned by 4:00PM. Gear is rented out in 1-hour increments throughout the day. If there is no current wait line for the equipment you checked out, you may renew for another hour, or try out a different piece of equipment!

Human | Nature Photo Contest

The Gardens and Mike’s Camera teamed up for an Instagram photo contest! The first place prize: Denver Botanic Gardens family membership ($90 value), $100 Mike’s Camera gift card and a large metal photo print. Second place prize: $50 Mike’s Camera gift card and four general admission tickets to the Gardens. Third place prize: $25 Mike’s Camera gift card and four general admission tickets to the Gardens.


  • Theme: Denver Botanic Gardens’ Human | Nature art exhibition
  • Photos must be taken at Denver Botanic Gardens and feature a sculpture(s) from the exhibition.
  • Be creative and have fun!
  • Participants may enter up to three (3) photos.
  • Participants who submit more than three (3) photos will be removed from the contest.
  • To enter, post the photo(s) on your Instagram feed and include #HumanNatureContest @MyMikesCamera in the body of the post.
  • Entry deadline is Sept. 15, 2019, 11:59 p.m.
  • Mike’s Camera photography experts will judge the submissions.
  • Three winners will be announced via the Gardens and Mike’s Camera Instagram feeds on Sept. 20.

Experience Level:  Beginner - Advanced  Beginners and experienced photographers will benefit from this workshop.

Endurance Level:  Moderate - All age levels are welcomed. Light hiking is involved, but nothing too strenuous. We’ll drive to each location then hike to the best position.

Workshop Dates: April 22, 2020 to April 25, 2020

Departure Date: April 26, 2020

Lodging:  Our home base for this workshop is LaQuinta located in Moab, Utah where we have reserved a block of rooms at a reduced rate. To reserve a room for this workshop click on this link. You are free to stay anywhere in the area.

What is Included? The cost of the workshop DOES includes: Photo instruction by Craig Wennersten at multiple locations, deep space observation session and photo editing  using Lightroom / Photoshop classroom instruction.This workshop DOES NOT included: Transportation to / from Moab and during the workshop (we will carpool as much as possible), flights or car rentals, lodging or meals.
