Overview

Join Mike's Camera & Hawk Quest for an owl-exclusive, three-part photography workshop and Tamron lens Test Drive!

Workshop includes an evening of classroom instruction at Mike’s Camera, followed by a Saturday morning photo session with an exclusive showing of owls at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood, complete with FREE lens rentals from Tamron, and a follow up critique & in-store gallery showing.

This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn about and photograph owls exclusively. Your participation helps support Hawk Quest, a Colorado nonprofit organization that takes care of at-risk birds of prey and they raise awareness about conservation issues.

What You Will Learn

Evening Lecture

Meet up at Mike’s Camera to learn the ins and outs of making great owl photos.

  • Tips for photographing portraits of owls while they are static in the trees
  • Learn about light, composition, exposure and depth of field, autofocusing and more

Saturday morning Photo Session

Meet up at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood to photograph an exclusive showing of owls. You’ll have the rare experience to photograph all of the birds in their natural habitat. Enjoy a close-up, hands-on shooting experience!

Master Falconer, Kin Quitugua from Hawk Quest will be there to pose the birds in trees.

FREE Loaner Gear from Tamron

During the photo session you’ll be able to try out the latest Tamron lenses, for FREE! Test a variety of long zoom lenses perfect for photographing wildlife, and get expert advice from Tamron experts.

A valid Credit Card & Driver’s License is required for equipment checkout and will be kept on file until return of equipment. Test Drive Loaner gear is FREE. Restrictions apply.

Follow up Critique & Gallery Opening

Meet back up at Mike’s Camera to wrap up the workshop with a fun and rewarding critique or your photographs! The group will review images from Saturday and share techniques that really worked, and those that were not as useful. You’ll be astonished by the immense variety of images that will have been captured and spend some time giving and receiving positive and informative feedback.

About Kin Quitugua & Hawk Quest

Kin Quitugua, a master falconer and longtime environmental educator founded HawkQuest in 1986. He has trained, handled and flown birds of prey as diverse as the Bald and Golden eagles and the Saw-whet owl. For more than 25 years, Kin has dedicated himself to educating the public about the place of raptors in our ecology.

Kin created HawkQuest believing environmental awareness is a key to the survival of the world as we know it, and education - of our nation's youth in particular - is paramount to this process. He has developed many educational programs such as HawkQuest's unique Classroom-in-the-Wild. Kin has received national recognition for his work combining educational and ecological concerns, having appeared on both local and national television programs. Kin also serves as a consultant to organizations which promote the welfare of birds of prey.
