Join Mike’s Camera for educational seminars photography walking tours of downtown Denver during Doors Open Denver 2012. The crew from Mike’s Camera along with Technical Representatives from Nikon will assist you in capturing some of Downtown Denver’s remarkable sites and architecture using your own gear or free loaner gear provided by Mike’s Camera. This program is open to the public and free for participants. However, tickets are required to participate and are limited to 30 individuals per group.
Each day, tours are set for both a morning and afternoon shoot session to capitalize on photographing during the times of the day when the quality of light is at its best. All tours begin at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Complex.

Walking Photo Tours are limited to 30 people per group. There will be two groups for Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.
Tickets will be issued on a first come first served basis: 50% of tickets will be issued at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th morning, and the other 50% will be available for pick-up at Mike’s Camera locations the week of Monday April 9th.
*Restrictions apply for loaner cameras and lenses at the event. A valid driver’s license and credit card are required for borrowing gear. See Mike’s Camera staff on site for details.

2012 Doors Open Denver Photo Contest

This is your opportunity to find and photograph your favorite areas of Denver or Denver landmarks, and post your images to a public site, have them reviewed by a panel of judges and get the opportunity to win fantastic prizes!
Photographers ages 18 and older are invited to participate and winning entries will be showcased on the Doors Open Denver web site and the contest website: http://www.DenverArtsInteractive.org
(Be aware that some sites have restrictions on interior or exterior photography, so please ask first.)
Our judges will review and select a Grand Prize winner, and first and second place winners for the following categories below as well as a 1st and 2nd place People’s Choice winners selected by online public vote.

The entry deadline is Friday, April 22nd, allowing you to take photos during Doors Open Denver Weekend.
Entry Rules

Photos are not limited to Doors Open Denver sites but must be of sites within the City of Denver or of the 2012 designated Landmarks.

Photos are limited to one image upload per category.

Entrants must be 18 or older.
All entrants agree that their name and images may be displayed and used in the Doors Open Denver Photography Competition marketing and promotion without charge or copyright infringement, and that the images they upload are acceptable for public view. See Complete Rules and Terms of Photo Contests.
Judges
Kristina Sheppard http://www.kristinasheppard.com, is a Denver area photographer, photo critic, and freelance writer and editor. With a keen interest in art and architecture, she has been a fan of the Doors Open Denver Photography Competitions from its beginnings in 2009 and has participated in all three competitions with success. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Arizona and is a longtime moderator of Photography Critique, the largest and most active critique group on Flickr, and administrator of Photography Critique.
Dennis Humphries is a principal of Humphries Poli Architects, P.C., the AIA Western Mountain Region Firm of the Year. He is the president of the Denver Architectural Foundation, chair of the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission and was honored with the Silver Medal from the Western Mountain Region of the American Institute of Architects. His work includes the design of public libraries across the US including Jackson Hole, WY, College Station TX, Cornelius, OR and six branches of the acclaimed Anythink Libraries in Colorado.
Brit Probst is a Principal at Davis Partnership Architects in Denver. Over the last twenty-one years he has been involved in many prominent new buildings in Denver. These include the Frederick Hamilton Building at the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art, the Daniel L. Ritchie Center, the Wolf Law Building at the University of Colorado, and 1600 Glenarm in downtown Denver. Brit is an ardent advocate of sustainable design.
Alex Christianian is the VP of Operations at Mike’s Camera, which operates three specialty photo-imaging superstores in the Denver- Boulder area. He is an avid photographer and his interests include after-capture imaging and digital image manipulation processes, as well as modern and contemporary art. Alex attended the University of Colorado, Boulder and has a BS degree in Marketing and Political Science and also serves on Denver Art Museum - Contemporaries committee.

Enter up to seven images that must be taken with the camera on your phone. They don't all have to be of the same subject or theme but they can be. You'll need to enter the contest from your computer, however (not your phone or tablet, as the contest app won't work on those devices. Irony… huh?)
Include in the caption what you used to take the photo: Phone type, apps, and filters within the app.
Share your entries with your friends on Facebook. Finalist pool will be determined by popular vote. Prize winners from the finalist pool will be selected by our staff panel.
