Lighting Basics:

How to Shoot Professional-Looking Portraits

with Erin Manning

Sponsored by Westcott Lighting

What You’ll Learn

If you’ve tried to capture professional-looking portraits, but haven’t gotten the results you wanted, you’re not alone. Let professional photographer, author, and educator, Erin Manning help you learn the basics about creating beautiful portraits using Daylight-Balanced, constant lights. You’ll be amazed at how inexpensive the setup is, and how easy it is to do. Erin’s mission is to inform, inspire and help anyone willing to learn.

You'll walk away feeling inspired and confident about the essentials for creating professional-looking portraits - and your friends will be asking you how you did it!

About Erin Manning

Erin Manning is a professional photographer, author, educator, and media personality. Television viewers know Erin best as the digital photography expert and host of DIY Network’s Telly-award-winning TV series The Whole Picture. In addition to creating and hosting the popular Digital Photography 101 video series, she is the author of two books, Portrait and Candid Photography and Make Money with Your Digital Photography, both published by Wiley. She enjoys helping people understand photography and technology and is known for her clear, friendly teaching style.

Erin spent several years working as a commercial, portrait, and stock photographer, as well as completing a degree in Studio Art/Graphic Design from Loyola Marymount University. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Digital Imaging Marketing Association and is a member of the American Photographic Artists, Women in Photography International, and the Los Angeles Digital Imaging Group, whose purpose is dedicated to advancing the art and science of digital imaging.

Mike’s Camera is proud to host Erin Manning in her first Denver engagement for photographers!

Session 1: Instructional Seminar

Erin will go over the basics of clean, professional lighting that are vital for every portrait photographer to master. She will go into detail about subjects like…

  • Setting up and using daylight-balanced studio lighting

  • Getting the most out of collapsible reflectors & soft-boxes

  • Working with your subjects to capture authentic personalities

  • Manipulating and controlling light to evoke a mood

Session 2: Hands on Workshop

Put what professional photographer, author, and educator, Erin Manning, taught you in the morning seminar to practical use with this unique Hands-on Studio Workshop photo shoot.

This workshop features full studio lighting set-ups, with models, so you can capture images with your own camera. Erin will help you create beautiful portraits by teaching you how to create different lighting patterns and how to use those patterns to bring out the authentic personality of your subject. She will also step you through critical subjects like lens selection, backgrounds, light modifiers, tripod use, exposure control and posing techniques.

Don’t miss this opportunity to work like a pro, with a pro and go home with images that will take your portrait photography to the next level.
