Dave will take his 30+ years of education and photography experience and expand on setting up single Speedlights for small shoots, lighting an entire sports arena with multiple Speedlights and everything in between. He’ll also go into detail about how to create gorgeous images using Lightpainting so you can see how easily this technique is accomplished!

About Dave Black

Dave Black’s education in Commercial Graphics Design and Studio Drawing lend well to his vision of photography. “I love to make pictures that draw the audience in for a closer look.”

As a freelance photographer for over 30 years Dave’s work have primarily centered on the sports industry for such publications as Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek and the award winning TV show Sports Century on ESPN. The list of event coverage includes the Masters, Kentucky Derby, National Football League, NASCAR and much more. Known for his creative use of Speedlights and in particular with the artistic technique of Lightpainting, Dave’s portfolio continues to broaden into the commercial and advertising industry with specialized lighting projects including work for National Geographic and their book Where Valor Rests, Arlington National Cemetery.

Session 1 Seminar

The seminar will be split up into 3 sections. During the first Dave will share with you his life’s work and the invaluable experiences he has gained over his long career as a photographer. He will then go into using Speedlights with pictures of set-ups and gear showing you how he was able to make the final image. Lastly he’ll lead you through the magic of Lightpainting, giving you before and after comparisons.

He will explain lightpainting for stil life, models and large landscapes presenting how you can easily accomplish this technique on your own.

Session 2 Hands on Workshop

Take the information that Dave shared with you and put it into action! Join him after the seminar with a group of no more than 14 other people. This will be a hands-on, step-by-step instructional class devoted to the creative lighting technique of Lightpainting. Learn practical information on how Dave approaches Lightpainting, along with insightful strategies, and unique equipment applications.

What to Bring

Bring a notepad and pen to take those crucial notes during the seminar. If you are attending the hands on workshop bring a SD card or Compact Flash Card. Dave will supply his own Nikon D800 for the hands-on segment.
