About The Learning Center Programs
As part of our Photography School, The Learning Center at Mike’s Camera offers a variety of programs, including Classes, Seminars and Workshops as closely related, yet distinctly different programs. We’re committed to helping you learn how to use your camera and take great looking photos!
We've been in the photo industry since 1967. And although cameras and technology have changed drastically, the components to make a great photograph pretty much remain the same. Our instructors are experienced Mike’s Camera crew members and excellent photographers and each of them is qualified as a Certified Photographic Consultant by the Photographic Marketing Association.
We are also fortunate to be able to host acclaimed professional photographers and software instructors; leaders in their fields to lead certain of our Learning Center programs.
Preparing for and Requirements for taking a Class at the Learning Center
When registering for a program at the Learning Center at Mike’s Camera, it is our sincere goal to ensure that you get the most from your experience. As we don’t impose prerequisites for most of our programs we strive describe each of our programs in as much detail as possible, in order to ensure that you select the programs that will best meet, enhance and challenge your skill level within the specified discipline.
Classes
Classes are generally held at each Mike's Camera Store Location, and run continually throughout the year. Each class addresses its coinciding core curriculum and runs for approximately two hours during the course of one evening. Class size is generally limited to approximately 20 students. The cost of each class is $55 per person. Customers who have purchased their camera from one of our stores receive two complimentary Class Admission Certificates valued at $55 each with every camera purchase as part of the Mike's Camera Perfect Picture Pak.
As classes tend to present general overviews on a given source of subject matter, please be aware that not every function specific to your particular camera may be included as a defining element of the class. We do highly encourage you to bring along your camera and any photos you've taken that you'd like to get feedback on from your instructor.

Seminars
Seminars are offered throughout the year on a variety of topics and photographic disciplines, and are typically presented by an all-star lineup of world class photographers and photography instructors. These events tend to be conducted in an auditorium style setting and are typically held off site at a variety of venues across the Denver, Boulder metro area.
Workshops
Workshops differentiate themselves from classes in the sense that they tend to be intensely focused on one particular aspect of the picture taking experience (ex: macro photography, portrait photography, etc.), and are typically in the field, or in the studio shooting events. Whether you’re in the shadow of the giant formations at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Yosemite's Half Dome, or composing environmental portraits of athletes on Boulder’s running trails, or capturing bighorn sheep at the Denver Zoo or on a wild African Photo Safari, Mike’s Camera will have the experts and gear there to support you.
As a workshop participant, you're it is necessary to bring along your camera or computer as well as any photos you've taken that you'd like to have critiqued in terms of both composition and technical execution.
As workshops often enlist supplemental instruction or resources and are at often held off-site, Class Certificates from your Perfect Picture Pak unfortunately cannot be put towards the purchase of a workshop, and the cost of each particular workshop varies in line with its curriculum.
